8-26-22 RUSD Superintendent Parent Letter: Health Update

RUSD Parent Letter

August 26, 2022

Dear Rowland Families:

Thank you for your support in a great start to the 2022-2023 school year! It has been wonderful to meet our families at back to school events. We look forward to the coming months of more care and connection activities and your children experiencing academic growth and success.

The health and safety of our students and staff remains a top priority and we want to share with you some updates regarding COVID safety measures.

Complimentary COVID Rapid At Home Test Kits for Students: Out of an abundance of caution and for preventive measures before the Labor Day holiday, the Rowland Unified School District will be offering a COVID rapid at-home test kit that includes two tests for your child beginning on Monday, August 29. These can be picked up at your school office. The District will also be distributing test kits again before Thanksgiving Break and Winter Break.

Please note that testing is not required to return to school. However, if you have traveled, gathered with people outside of your immediate family, or are not feeling well, please use the free tests offered and other resources provided by the District to keep our schools safe.

COVID Clinic Testing and Vaccines: Our health partner COVID Clinic continues to offer daily free COVID PCR testing at the District Office Monday – Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. located outside in the back of the District Office. Additionally, every Friday by appointment only, COVID vaccines are offered to infants, toddlers, children and adults, along with booster doses from 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. To register or to make an appointment visit www.rowlandschools.org.

Updated COVID-19 Notification Guidelines: In the event someone who has been on our school campus tests positive for COVID-19, parents/guardians will receive notification if their child is considered a close contact. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has changed guidelines for schools and no longer requires that we provide an all school notification if someone in the school setting has tested positive. Therefore, beginning August 29, 2022, we will be sending only close contact notifications to parents/guardians.

RUSD COVID-19 Dashboard: While we are not required to send home all school notices, our District and schools are committed to providing accurate and transparent information regarding COVID-19 cases on our campuses, while maintaining privacy and confidentiality for our students and staff. We will continue to update each evening our RUSD COVID-19 Dashboard. The dashboard data is updated within 24 hours of notification of a confirmed case and can be found easily on the www.rowlandschools.org website HERE.

Thank you for your efforts in working with us to continue to keep our schools healthy and safe.

With Gratitude,

Julie Mitchell, Ed.D.
