Rowland Unified Stands for Unity

March 25, 2021

To Our Rowland Unified Community:

Rowland Unified School District mirrors the diverse and multicultural society of our nation.  This past year we've seen the effects of retaliation against many individuals and groups of different ethnic backgrounds, religions, cultures, races, and lifestyles. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, cases of racial discrimination and acts of violence toward Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have increased across the country. This past week, that violence has escalated with the shocking mass shooting in Atlanta, ending in the senseless deaths of eight people, six who were Asian women.

The Rowland Unified School District stands united against racism and discrimination, including the increase in violent incidents against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. We not only condemn any and all forms of violence, we stand with Asian communities who are experiencing varying forms of emotional and physical persecution. Crimes targeting Asians, or any ethnicity or group, will not be accepted or tolerated. The strength of the Rowland Unified School District stems from our diverse student population and our commitment to innovative learning and educational excellence for the diverse communities that we serve. The Board of Education and Rowland Unified employees are proud to serve our communities and cherish the diversity of our families.

As a school district, we value our critical role in teaching inclusion, cultural awareness, and understanding and continue our commitment to fostering a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for all students, families, and staff. We pledge to continue our work to eradicate injustice and celebrate diversity and inclusion. We are stronger together and stand united to keep our communities safe.

Below is a list of resources for Rowland Unified families and teachers that not only support conversations with our children about racism, but also provide mental health and wellness resources:
