Dear Rowland Families,

I hope you and your family were able to enjoy Spring Break last week.

As a District, we are excited as we prepare to welcome students back to our schools, beginning the week of April 26, for in-person support.  As we proceed, it is important to note that the health and safety of everyone remains our top priority.

While teachers will be recommending students to participate, as a parent/guardian, you are also able to request that your child participate in the in-person support being offered. Please note that this is not a drop-in program and parents will need to inform their school site if they are interested in having their child attend. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health guidelines require us to limit attendance to a maximum of 14 students in a classroom and we are required to create and maintain a stable class list of students who will be attending in-person. While your child’s teacher will be on campus two afternoons per week for in-person support, if the total number of students in a class who choose to participate exceeds 14, your child will be assigned one day to attend in-person.

Rowland Unified staff have been hard at work to ensure our campuses are ready to welcome our students back. To ensure safety for staff and students, the campus and classrooms will look different. Detailed information will be provided by your school principal next week, including the safety measures that have been put into place, schedules for both the time of the day and days of the week, as well as:

  • Visitor Policies
  • Health Screening Before Sending Your Child to School
  • Temperature Screening When Arriving on Campus
  • Classroom Set Up and Being on Campus
  • Campus Cleaning Protocols and Improved Air Quality, and
  • Addressing a COVID Exposure at School

As we continue to provide care, connection, and compassion, we are very excited to welcome back students to in-person support. We recognize for some, this gradual return is just right in reopening our schools, while for others it is not enough time or too much time. We greatly appreciate your support and patience as we close the end of this unique school year with this opportunity to have students return to campus and we look forward to summer learning and the 2021—2022 school year being in-person for our students.

With Gratitude,

Julie Mitchell
